CenterPoint Energy

CenterPoint Energy is working to support customers across its multi-state service territory as they transition to a lower-emissions energy future. The company has established a Scope 3 greenhouse gas reduction goal to help residential and commercial customers reduce emissions associated with their use of natural gas by 20–30% by 2035 from a 2021 baseline, while also expecting a roughly 33% reduction in methane emissions through continued pipeline modernization and operational improvements. As part of this broader strategy, CenterPoint is preparing to develop and operate its first thermal energy network (TEN) pilot project, approved through its Natural Gas Innovation Act Innovation Plan. Through the pilot, the company aims to gain hands-on experience deploying and operating this emerging technology, better understand the costs and performance of TEN systems in Minnesota’s cold climate, and learn directly from customers about adoption, affordability, and overall experience.
